New flying fields

Having lost the use of Ramsey Farm, we will very soon have access to two flying fields. The final details are being set but hopefully from early March, quite likely before we can no longer use Ramsey Farm, we shall be able to fly again at RAF Wattisham and also at a new site at Great Oakley Airfield. Great Oakley is close to Harwich and Dovercourt - see map right.

Before we can fly at either site there are a few things that have got to be arranged. As both sites are active full-size airfields it is likely that when flying our models we will have to have an airband radio so that we can hear when aircraft are approaching the airfield to land.

At the Great Oakley site we are not so far away from the Harwich & Dovercourt Model Club's field. We expect to arrange some form of frequency sharing, this is currently being discussed with the H&DMC committee.

Getting to Great Oakley from Ipswich can be done one of two ways - the longer, easier route via the A12 and A120 - 25miles and 30 minutes approx. from the A14/A12 junction at Copdock or the shorter, twistyer route through Manningtree - 16miles and still around 30 minutes from the A14/A137 junction near the ski-slope.

More details will follow soon.
